This was an interesting article I found about women being overlooked when it comes to health care. The main point the article was trying to make was that women are in more need of health care during their reproductive years but now it seems as though health care is hard to obtain and afford. Their seems to be an issue with some insurance company's and looking at the employment rate; full time vs part time, some employers tend to not provide health insurance because of the size of the population so women are being singled out once again.
The down size to all of this is that women who do have access to insurance gets charged more than men do and i think that is just absurd. The alarming thing that I found was that women manke about 80 percent of what men make but yet and still are suppose to pay the same amount for premiums that men pay. To me women need health care more that men because they tend to have more problems through out life such as having children, pap smears and mammograms which are needed on the regular. Many company's don't even look at if there is pre-existing conditions which would probably make it even harder for some people to get insurance, but not even that it would raise the cost up just to get that insurance.
This goes hand in hand with what we were learning in class about health because women do tend to make less than men and it seems as though women get the bad end of the stick when it comes to trying to maintain good health with the way the econmy was recently. It would just make more sense to have preimus less for women because of the way they are paid.

Why Human Trafficking?
This was a story done in Ermelo, South Africa regarding prostitutes are the main reason why this small town attracted them, which was human trafficking. It was sad to see that a child as young as the age of 16 was being treated like a slave and forced into prostitution. It was sad to see that many women suffered horrific situations such as being raped or killed because they didn't want to work. I cant imagine myself being in a situation like this and being forced to do things against my will. Just think about Innocent children that are put into this predicament because of family or situations that was out of their hands. I think the justice system needs to tighten up on this because it is just not right. It seems as though there would be laws implemented against this to help protect women and children of younger ages from being exploited. I know this tends to happen in countries where labor is not all that good and they have to face abuse and unsafe situations.
Impact of Violence: Why Some Women Stay?

This was as interesting story that I found on Domestic Violence in the workplace. The main thought of this story was that there are many reason within domestic violence why women miss work. Through all of this majority of the time supervisors and people of authority are unaware of these situations because maybe women don't really think the situation is really that serious.
The thing that really stuck out to me was that when asked 8% of men said they had been victims of domestic violence in the past 12 months. I never really thought that men would actually be victims of domestic violence because in many instances, the woman is the one that is usually the victim. Many women choose to stay in this environment because they are scared to leave or are threatened on many occasions if they leave. According to the class discussion we had on domestic violence, many woman are economically depended on men and if they leave they will not have anywhere to stay. In many societies, they practice patriarchy in which the woman is supposed to be subordinate to all the men in her life including her son, etc. Then many times the family has turned against the woman because of the many, so majority of the time there is no family support when needed.
This situation not only affects the woman or man as a whole but also her place of work. I say this because all the workers are put at risk if the situation goes further and also puts the woman's life in jeopardy because every time she wakes up or steps out of her domain she will constantly have to watch her back and it will mentally obstruct her everyday life.

Diversity At It's Best!!!

This was a cartoon video that I came across but couldn't get it to upload. A quick summary of the video: a little boy was having a birthda party and he had lots of gifts but the funny thing was the gifts came in different packages and colors in which he didn't like any of the colors. Then he finally got to the gift wrap that he like and opened it and and found some pink bunny slippers. So from this I got that you cant judge a gift by its wrapping. you have to look beyond the surface to find that everyone has many special gifts. I think this pertains somewhat to what were are lesrning anout sucg as being biased towards certain groups or things without knowing the whole picture. Many people just take a quick glance and never take the time out to know what is really going on before judging a situation. This is something that can go for any race or sex for overcoming prejudice by anymeans.

Should women Rule the World?

When looking at Fox 8 news the other night, an interesting topic came across the tv screen: Should Women Rule the World. In trhis news segment the question was directed towards President Obama asking if he would be better off if his wife Michelle had his job. This interview was done by Dee Dee Myers, a woman who was Press Secretary for President Clinton back in 1994. The fact was that women shouldn't never run the world period, but run along beside men because women have different lifestyles and and perspectives on issues. In fact each gender has things that they are good at that will compliment the other. But according to the Femininist Movement, there was a thought that men and women were engaged in a zero sum game, and that for one gender to get something, the other had to lose it. Just the same as for parents taking care of children, the child gets a different perspective from each parent and when there is someone there to see the opportunity, it sometimes is a better result in the end. So by increasing women's roles politically might lessen the effects of all the wars take place. To me this just shows that womens subordinate position in society can bring out some good qualities and sometimes having a women's point of view will help to enhance and articlate any situation.

Masculine vs. Feminin Sports: Whose to Say?

As I was watching the news the other day an eye catching image came across my eyes. I was amazed to hear the sports person say that Danica Patrick was one of two female nascar drivers. This amazed me because I and probably many other people thought that nascar and racing was only a male sport. This also amazed me because when growing up many are taught the female from the male sports and that it was rare for you to play in a sport that did not pertain or agree with your sex. This is what society has perceived and taught many of us and so it seems as if it is a rule of thumb or that if violated would go against the rules. However, we can see that we were proven wrong on this note and that it is possible for a female to engage in a male sport. This also amazed me because we as a society are taught that men are much tougher than women and so for her to be a nascar driver is a step up for women because we have been oppressed and looked down on for so long until when we do something out of the norm, then it seems like a big accomplishment for us as women. Even though see finished 31st among 43 cars, she still made many females impressed.
